The Ecosystem-based Management Handbook guides all forestry planning, approvals and on the ground activities.

The principles, planning framework and targets contained in the Ecosystem-based Management Handbook must be applied throughout the entire Great Bear Rainforest. The Ecosystem Based Management handbook was developed by a team of scientists to determine what was needed to maintain ecological integrity of this spectacular ecosystem.

Full implementation of the Great Bear Rainforest Agreements*

Standing together with First Nations, the logging industry, local communities, and environmentalists the Government of British Columbia committed to implement ecologically appropriate logging practices (Ecosystem Based Management) in the entire region by March 31st 2009.

Specific marketplace support for CFCI businesses based on their role in implementing the Great Bear Rainforest Agreements by March 31st, 2009*

* Milestones marked with an asterisk are agreed to by major logging companies and environmental organizations that work together in the Joint Solutions Project (JSP). The JSP was established by the Coastal Forest Conservation Initiative (CFCI), formed by Western Forest Products, Interfor, BC Timber Sales, Canfor and Catalyst Paper, and the Rainforest Solutions Project (RSP). Progress on these milestones will be assessed by an independent assessor.
