Environmental Groups Give Government and Industry Failing Grade
April 28, 2005
A coalition of four, major environmental groups has given the Campbell Liberals and the forest industry in this province a failing grade, when it comes to protecting the forests.
The Sierra Club, Forestethics, Greenpeace and the Rainforest Action Network say the government and industry have failed in the areas of protection, the use of “credible science,” their management of change…and have earned only a “c” grade when it comes to protecting First Nations’ interests.
They say everyone involved has worked hard to meet the government’s imposed deadline of spring/2005 to “sign off” on the province’s final, land-use plans…only to have the government withhold a decision at the last minute, raising new uncertainty over the future of our forests.
